Secha Capital Makes Two New Investments via its Operator-Investor Model: Getting Our Countries’ Best and Brightest to Work with and Grow SMEs!

What do a head of lettuce and a battery have in common?

At first glance, nothing. But when that lettuce head is hydroponically grown by Cultura Fresh and the battery stores energy and is manufactured by iG3N, it represents the first two investments out of Secha Capital’s new fund!

And while these are two very different sectors, the theses have a lot of similarities too:

Both are environmentally-positive and profitable key enablers. They meet large, existing demand with a capital-efficient, uniquely South African solution. And they are the “unsexy” part of massive sector value chains that create jobs and map to multiple Sustainable Development Goals.

Importantly, both of these investments were led by new faces in the private equity industry; three young, accomplished Secha Capital Operator-Investors: Kuhle Mnisi, Seema Lalloo and Yusuf Shaikh.

They will work with Cultura Fresh and iG3N for the next twelve months to grow these companies into local champions and create a positive impact!

We believe that Kuhle, Seema and Yusuf can inspire more of the continent’s youth to serve as a conduit for growth and change.
